Feminism- Equality? Yeah Right. Special Rights? Now that's more like it.

Our Literature teacher is a feminist. Her ideas are traditional ones and her aggressiveness over her ideas are traditional as well. Her mind, although sound and critical, is confused and shrouded in her close-mindedness to see reality- a reality where patriarchal views are still practiced.

While I respect her zeal in protecting the rights of the oppressed women, I fear that her goals are short-lived and unrealistic. She reminded me of the current occurrences that marked the reality of our world, nowadays. And although it is undeniable that women are abused or at the very least, discriminated against, most specially in Muslim and other religious countries, it is also undeniable that women are growing in power in their so called "call for equality."

But this call for equality lost its purpose. It lost sight of its future, deviating from its intended role to serve and help the oppressed, and entering into a dangerous arena of power hunger. It seeks not only to balance the concept of gender equality but it seeks to deviate and alienate society from the traditional patriarchal views to establish matriarchal ones.

And this is a dangerous and destructive move. For not only does it neglect the oppressed, but it promotes the cycle of hatred and lust for power. The established traditional views are being attacked. But it is not so for a reason of goodness but it is so for an indestructible cycle of hate and war. Who will break the chain? The future is yet to be ascertained.

Rebellious Nature - A Desire?

Many times have we thought of rebelling. May it be against a system, against someone, or against something. It is an inherent nature that makes us want to do something that is out of our league and make a difference out of a given system. But when we delve deeper into that desire, we tend to become rebellious.

This phase in our life is marked by the desire to go against almost everything- our parents, the law, policies, etc. And from what I could gather, this phase is both voluntarily and involuntarily induced, depending on the degree and reason for the act of rebelling. There are times when something within us just don't agree with something and force us to subconsciously rebel against something. There are also times when we want to rebel for the sake of rebelling and that's the time when it becomes dangerous.

Rebelling, is a subconscious desire, a defense mechanism if you ask. So when you judge someone for being rebellious, know that it might not be that voluntary. He or she may just want to make a point to society and encourage us to think and to scrutinize the current standing and procedures within our society. And remember, before we judge others, always think that we, too, at some point of our lives rebelled against something.
