Feminism- Equality? Yeah Right. Special Rights? Now that's more like it.

Our Literature teacher is a feminist. Her ideas are traditional ones and her aggressiveness over her ideas are traditional as well. Her mind, although sound and critical, is confused and shrouded in her close-mindedness to see reality- a reality where patriarchal views are still practiced.

While I respect her zeal in protecting the rights of the oppressed women, I fear that her goals are short-lived and unrealistic. She reminded me of the current occurrences that marked the reality of our world, nowadays. And although it is undeniable that women are abused or at the very least, discriminated against, most specially in Muslim and other religious countries, it is also undeniable that women are growing in power in their so called "call for equality."

But this call for equality lost its purpose. It lost sight of its future, deviating from its intended role to serve and help the oppressed, and entering into a dangerous arena of power hunger. It seeks not only to balance the concept of gender equality but it seeks to deviate and alienate society from the traditional patriarchal views to establish matriarchal ones.

And this is a dangerous and destructive move. For not only does it neglect the oppressed, but it promotes the cycle of hatred and lust for power. The established traditional views are being attacked. But it is not so for a reason of goodness but it is so for an indestructible cycle of hate and war. Who will break the chain? The future is yet to be ascertained.

Rebellious Nature - A Desire?

Many times have we thought of rebelling. May it be against a system, against someone, or against something. It is an inherent nature that makes us want to do something that is out of our league and make a difference out of a given system. But when we delve deeper into that desire, we tend to become rebellious.

This phase in our life is marked by the desire to go against almost everything- our parents, the law, policies, etc. And from what I could gather, this phase is both voluntarily and involuntarily induced, depending on the degree and reason for the act of rebelling. There are times when something within us just don't agree with something and force us to subconsciously rebel against something. There are also times when we want to rebel for the sake of rebelling and that's the time when it becomes dangerous.

Rebelling, is a subconscious desire, a defense mechanism if you ask. So when you judge someone for being rebellious, know that it might not be that voluntary. He or she may just want to make a point to society and encourage us to think and to scrutinize the current standing and procedures within our society. And remember, before we judge others, always think that we, too, at some point of our lives rebelled against something.

Daily Life - Browsing

Got bored a little so I decided to give this blog a little glimpse of how my browsing habit is. Although I lost track of how many tabs are open, I'm sure it goes beyond 20 up.

Lifting the Haze - A realization

It appears that silence is the bringer of realizations. For as I sat alone in this little corner of mine, the root and the cause of my current torment has been brought to light.

I am a person who takes great pride in appearance and personal performance. But despite of that, I am a seeker of entertainment, of pleasure, of amusement. And regardless of my oath to take care of myself, I find myself getting sucked into this void filled with entertainment. It proved to be my downfall. Right from neglecting my studies, eating less, and now, sleeping less, I have gone against my very principle of self-improvement.

Indeed, I found out that the root and cause of my inability to concentrate and constant treading through a hazy cloud-like vision is due to lack of sleep. Now it might sound obvious to some that sleep is importance, and even I always stressed the importance of early sleep, we tend to be more on our "human nature" and ignore the risks in exchange for self-fulfillment.

That happened to me. And due to the fact that my room at college does not have an internet connection, I decided to stay up all night whenever I'm home. How could I have forgotten this simple fact? Just as the popular adage goes, "Time flies when you're having fun". And that couldn't have been more correct. When I'm on the internet, I tend to lose track of the time. And I ended up going to bed at 10 and above.

Since my usual limit is 8:30 PM to 9, I can deduce that indeed I have been losing sleep and my body is stressed enough to affect my concentration.

This realization is indeed an "eye-opener". For years, I have forgotten the importance of sleep. And as a result, it took away my ability to think straight and clearly. Even my reading ability was affected as well as my writing.

And for that, I will make a second vow never to deprive myself of sleep again. For if I value my development and truly love myself, I ought to at least give myself the rest it deserves.

Fiery Spirit: Awaken!

Life is a directionless whirlwind. It is destructive yet it is creative. Disorganized and chaotic, it seeks to make sense of what is and what nots by immersing itself in its preordained role. This makes it impossible to try new things. Accustomed to its destructive role, changes are foreign and awkward and thus it leaves its chances to try something new, to meet its creative side.

We men are like that whirlwind. I have experienced that first-hand. In fact, the realization came to me three days ago, just after my enrollment for the second semester of college. Here I am, sitting in the little corner of our home when I received a sudden inspiration to write.

But a more bitter realization hit me upon my attempt. Just a year ago, I could write with much ease. Ideas just flowed in and grammatical structure correct itself within the very processing core of my brain. But at this moment, everything feels awkward. It feels as though my head is covered in a haze and a heavy feeling kept my mind from operating the way it used to back in high school.

This alarmed me greatly. Too long have I been comfortable in the idea that I am good and I am enough. But right this instance, I know that my complacency led to the deterioration of my person, my soul and my memory. It is time for that whirlwind to rest and free itself from its endless torment. It is time for the storm to end its violence. It is time for the torture to stop.

At this time of this writing, the seeds of changes are in order. No longer will naivete hamper my judgment; no longer shall innocence cloud my vision; no longer will foolishness and selfishness close room for progress. It is time to put pride to rest. It is time to work. It is time to awaken that fiery spirit and give rise to a more aware and more flexible catalyst to a brighter and more wonderful development.
